Medvedev: Risks of crisis abroad rise in 2021, Russia must be ready
MOSCOW, Jun 17 (PRIME) -- The chances of a new financial crisis in one or several foreign states will be higher in 2021 than in 2020 and Russia must get ready for external shocks, Chairman of the Security Council Dmitry Medvedev said in an article in magazine Russia in Global Affairs, published on Wednesday.
"The current unfavorable situation can trigger a new financial crisis as well in one or several countries. This, in its turn, will pressure Russia’s financial and foreign currency markets and will cause an additional decline of demand for Russian exports. The possibility of such shocks rises with time and the 2021 risks will be higher than in 2020. We must be ready for this as well," Medvedev said.
The Russian economy experienced a triple shock in 2020 -- an oil price slump, an exports fall and the quarantine restrictions, he said.
He also said that the search for reasons of the pandemic has become part of electoral policies of some states, but this is a dead end "that will help no one, even during the elections," the official said.
